When Do You Need Regrouting?
Grout naturally wears over time due to moisture, cleaning products and everyday use. Once it begins to crack or break away, cleaning alone is no longer enough.
You may need professional regrouting if you notice:
- Cracked or crumbling grout
- Loose or missing grout
- Mould that keeps returning
- Water leaking through grout joints
- Grout that is permanently stained
- Gaps around shower floors or walls
- Silicone that has become mouldy or deteriorated
If left untreated, damaged grout can allow moisture behind your tiles, potentially causing expensive structural damage.

Our Professional Regrouting Process
Every project begins with a careful inspection so we can determine the best solution for your tiled area.
Step 1 – Inspection
We assess the condition of your grout, silicone, tiles and surrounding surfaces to determine whether regrouting is the most suitable option.
Step 2 – Removal of Old Grout
Using professional grout removal equipment, we carefully remove the damaged grout without simply covering over the existing joints.
Unlike quick patch repairs, we never grout over old grout because it doesn’t provide a lasting result.
Step 3 – Surface Preparation
The grout joints are thoroughly cleaned to remove dust, debris and contaminants before new grout is applied.
Step 4 – New Grout Installation
We install premium-quality grout, including epoxy grout where appropriate, to provide a strong, durable finish.
Step 5 – Silicone Replacement
Where required, we remove old silicone and replace it with high-quality sanitary-grade silicone to improve waterproofing and reduce mould growth.
Step 6 – Final Inspection
Before we finish, we inspect every grout line to ensure a neat, consistent appearance and a professional finish.

- Easier to clean
- Extremely durable
- Ideal for showers and bathrooms

Why Regrouting Is Better Than Replacing Tiles
Many people assume that damaged grout means the entire tiled area needs replacing.
In reality, most tiles remain in excellent condition while only the grout has deteriorated.
Professional regrouting allows you to:
- Restore the appearance of existing tiles
- Improve waterproofing
- Eliminate mouldy grout
- Extend the life of your tiled surfaces
- Avoid the cost and disruption of retiling
In many cases, regrouting saves homeowners thousands of dollars compared to a complete renovation.
Types of Grout
There are four basic types of grout: unsanded, fine sanded, quarry type, and epoxy.
- Unsanded grout : This is used for wall tiles where the grout joint is less than 1/8” wide.
- Finely sanded grout: This is used for floor tiles where the joints are 1/8” to 3/8” wide.
- Quarry-type grout: This is the same as finely sanded grout for ceramic til?s except that a coarser grade of sand is used. The quarry-type grout is used for joints that are 3/8” wide to 1/2” wide such as those used with Saltillo tiles.
Epoxy grout: This consists of an epoxy resin and hardener. Epoxy grout for ceramic til? is highly resistant to stains and chemicals and has a tremendous bonding strength. It is ideal for countertops and other areas susceptible to stains. Our number 1 choice.
Regrouting adds value to your home
It’s time to learn about the benefits of regrouting. Apart from your shower looking brand new again, re-grouting will also add extended life as well. The new grout and silicone seals will create a water-tight shower cubicle again adding another ten to fifteen years to the life of the re-grouted area. There are also health benefits to re-grouting. Not only will it get rid of nasty black mold which can cause severe respiratory problems, but the harsh chemicals you use to combat this mold will no longer be needed. The benefits of regrouting far outweigh the costs.
Upon completion of your shower re-grout, Strictly Grout will provide you with a 500ml bottle of highly concentrated all-natural pH-neutral cleaner to use on your newly completed shower re-grout to keep it looking as good as the day we left.
For many people, old tiles in bathrooms and laundries often need Grout Repairs and Silicone Replacement. Do you have moldy or damaged grout and silicone that need replacing in your shower walls and floors we can remove all that for you and replace it with brand new. We use professional grout removal tools and we do not skim coat (new grout over existing grout) as this only lasts a few months.
We also carry a large variety of grout colors to match your existing grout. For silicone, we carry 6 different colors and we only use 100% silicone. So if you are looking for a regrouting Sunshine Coast company get in touch with us.

Grout Colour Advice
Deciding what grout to use with your new tiles can be just as important as the selection of the tiles themselves.
Regarding grout colour, it’s always advisable to go for a mid-grey tone. A light colour grout on your floor will almost certainly end up with a ‘Laundromat grey’ look and a very dark colour grout can quickly show up any dirt (anyone who has owned a black car will know what I mean).
Most importantly, the floor must be suitable to receive tiles otherwise even the best quality grout will not perform and will quickly crack and fall out. The floor needs to be even and clean.
These days, most tile grouts contain mould inhibitors, but they still require some maintenance. Grout sealers can be applied to help minimize the problem. If you want a real high-end grout, you could consider using epoxy grouts. These are typically used in commercial kitchens because they are highly resistant to cleaning chemicals and have minimal water absorption. However, they cost more than normal grout.
Always ensure the grout you choose has a matching silicone colour for the perimeters, as it’s best to avoid any unsightly contrasts. Lastly, ensure that when the grouting is done, it’s done right. For example, do not wash off the grout with too much water before it has dried and settled properly. Washing it off too early will make the grout soft and create an uneven colour.
Remember: you can make an average tile job look magnificent with good grouting, just as you can make a magnificent tiling job look average with substandard grouting.

Regrouting – Frequently Asked Questions
What is regrouting?
Regrouting involves removing old, cracked or damaged grout and replacing it with new grout. This restores the appearance of your tiled surfaces while helping improve waterproofing and extending the life of your tiles.
How Long Does Regrouting Take?
Depending on how large the area is to regrout and the tile size. Generally, a 2-wall average shower including shower floor and silicon replacement, takes 1 full day to complete. Any larger areas 2 days. Commercial jobs could beat at least 1-2 weeks.
Can regrouting remove mould?
Yes – in many cases. If mould has penetrated the grout or grout is breaking down, regrouting is the best long-term solution. We remove the affected grout and replace it with fresh, mould-resistant grout designed for wet areas.
What is regrouting and when is it needed?
Regrouting involves removing old, damaged or mouldy grout and replacing it with new grout. It’s recommended when grout is cracked, missing, heavily stained or when mould keeps returning despite cleaning.
Do You Offer A Warranty
Yes. All our regrout jobs come with a 12-month warranty and our 100% satisfaction guarantee.
Is Regrouting A Messy Process?
Regrouting can be a messy job depending on the tools and machinery that is used. At Strictly Grout we make sure we keep the dust down, using our dustless regrouting equipment. We also fully clean the job site once complete.
When Can I Use My Shower After A Regrout?
We recommend waiting 24 hours. If in a dry area, you can walk on them straight away.
What Type Off Grout Do You Use
We only use Epoxy grout due to its staining repellency (easier to maintain) and lasts longer than sanded or unsanded grouts.
Do you remove old grout completely?
Yes, all grout is removed, no skim overs.
Is regrouting better than grout cleaning?
Regrouting is recommended when grout is damaged or beyond cleaning. If grout is still in good condition, professional tile and grout cleaning may be sufficient. We’ll assess your grout and explain which option is best.
How long does regrouting take?
Timeframes vary depending on the size of the area and condition of the grout. Most shower regrouting jobs are completed efficiently with minimal disruption. We’ll give you a clear timeframe before starting.
Can you regrout showers and bathrooms?
Yes. We regularly regrout showers, bathrooms and wet areas across the Sunshine Coast. Where suitable, we can also use epoxy grout for improved durability and moisture resistance.
Will my tiles be damaged during regrouting?
No. We use tile-safe tools and methods designed to remove grout without damaging surrounding tiles.
Can you match my existing grout colour?
We aim to match your existing grout as closely as possible. If colour matching isn’t achievable, grout recolouring is an excellent option to achieve a clean, even finish.
Do I need to leave my home during regrouting?
No. You can remain at home during the service. There may be a mild odour during the process, which we ventilate and advise you about in advance.
How long before I can use my shower after regrouting?
Drying and curing times vary depending on the grout used. We’ll advise you clearly on when it’s safe to use the area again.
